Root Canal Treatment Cairns QLD
Endodontic therapy deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disorders regarding the dental pulp (nerve tissue inside the teeth). Root canal is an endodontic procedure that involves removing dental pulp that has become infected and needs to be removed to optimise the health of your smile.
If root canal treatment is not performed, eventually bacteria will destroy the pulp completely and cause the tooth to ‘die’ and discolour. This can also result in a lot of pain for the patient, which is why it is so important that you visit the dentist every six months to ensure that any decay is identified early and treated. The earlier the issue is identified, the less severe treatment will be – so don’t ignore tooth pain!
Will my tooth need to be removed?
In the past if your tooth suffered from infection or disease, dentists would simply have it removed. Today however, we take every possible course of action to ensure we are able to maintain all of your current natural teeth and keep them for life. If, however, the tooth does need to be removed we offer dental implants which replace both the root and crown of the tooth. This solution is considered the best way to replace a missing tooth, although saving your existing tooth with a root canal will still be our objective.
